The Power of the Morning Huddle

The morning huddle has become such a successful part of our culture, we felt the need to share it with everyone!

Holding a morning huddle is probably the single most effective cultural change we have implemented since enabling video on every employee’s phone.

Every day, from 9:00 to 9:15, the Impulse team gathers in our lounge for our daily huddle. Remote employees join via video from their Polycom phone, or Communicator softphone, and are projected onto a large monitor behind the huddle host.

Each week a new team member leads the huddle. After reviewing the customer installs for the day, we touch base with a member from predetermined daily departments on this week’s highlights, objectives, and challenges.  The team members share new information on customers, products, or events. Throughout the huddle, KPIs are updated weekly on our KPI whiteboard.  The last few minutes of the huddle are reserved for personal shout-outs and praise to fellow employees and for the sales team to announce any deals that they have closed.  If the sale is over our celebration threshold, the sales team member will spin our “Celebration Wheel”, which has company-wide prizes, including all staff lunches, drinks, or cash prizes!

Since implementing the huddle over a year ago, an unforeseen list of benefits has arisen. Employees feel more connected to other departments, communication errors have significantly reduced, and problems are solved faster.  Video collaboration holds a key roll in this. While working remotely can make at home workers feel left out, the ability to see the whole team every day on video can help employees feel more connected.

Over the past year, customers and partners have attended the huddle.  This has provided a great avenue for them to meet our entire team and see Impulse’s unique culture in action.

Check out the video of our huddle in action and please stop by to experience it yourself!
