Jesusita Fire Update
Santa Barbara, CA, May 7th, 2009 - The Jesusita Fire is threatening downtown Santa Barbara and has caused many short power outages and several extended power outages in the Santa Barbara area over the last two days. Our battery and generator back-up systems have operated successfully through these power outages. We expect to see additional power outages to the area until the fire is under control.
Our company headquarters and Goleta datacenter are not currently threatened by the fire, and our services and staffing levels remain normal. The Anapamu datacenter is on the outer edge of the evacution warning area so there is the possibility of it becoming a mandatory evacuation area if the fire's threat to downtown worsens. We recommend that our Anapamu co-location customers try to avoid travel to the area and monitor the fire conditions closely.
Here is our assessment of the reliability of each level of service we provide:
Internet Access, Hosting and Colocation:
Our Santa Barbara and Goleta datacenters are backed up by uninterruptible power supplies with failover diesel generators. These generators auto-start in the event of a power failure and are designed to run a minimum of 24 hours before requiring additional fuel.
Impulse contracts with a diesel fuel supplier to provide fuel on a 24x7 basis. Our supplier estimates they have enough fuel on hand to run every generator in Santa Barbara for 5 days without needing additional supplies trucked in from outside the area.
Telephone Services:
ClearStar customers in the Santa Barbara area who lose power at their site will not be able to make outbound calls unless they have their own backup systems. People will still be able call into the system, reaching your auto attendant and voicemail. You can remotely turn on call forwarding via the web or by calling Impulse. ClearStar, as a hosted service, ensures your phone system functions even when you lose power at your location. Customers can forward numbers to their cell phones or work with us to relocate their existing phones to any other Internet connected location.
In the event of a heightened threat to our Anapamu datacenter we would relocate critical servers to our Goleta and San Luis Obispo datacenters.
We strive to provide the most reliable phone and Internet services possible to our customers; as part of this strategy, redundancy is built into all our systems to offer you extra protection in case of emergencies. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly at 805-456-5800.
